With a 4:50am pickup, the Novice Women made their way up to Nottingham with sleepy eyes, but eager spirits, to compete in our first ever regatta. Little did we know that not one of our boats would complete in more than just the initial time-trial…
Going in to the race we knew that a sprint of 6.8km would be the toughest race we would face all year. It was terrifying to think of, but once completed filled our girls with the greatest sense of pride and achievement, despite the difficulties faced both with injuries and damaged boats.
Paddling up the river was almost futile as the stream was so fast and since we were the first crew to leave our cox had to have a cheeky check on Google Maps to make sure we had not taken a wrong turning along the way.
Following the strong disappointment of our two previous races being cancelled due to poor weather, the Novice women’s first and second eight finally underwent their highly anticipated first race at Worcester Head last Saturday.
