                   VARSITY IS BACK!

Rowing Varsity hasn't run since 2006 but after much anticipation it finally returned. The two local rivals went head to head on the 4th February at Worcester Rowing club. The racing was over 750metres finishing in front of the boat houses. There were 10 events held over the day with points being awarded for each race. The team with the highest number of points won the coveted Midlands Varsity Trophy. This year it was awarded to Birmingham.

Despite the freezing cold conditions and the imminent snow fall, both clubs enjoyed a great days racing. The Warwick Senior Men's squad triumphed in both the 8+ and 4+, promising a strong season ahead for the squad. The Senior Women held a strong battle in the 8+ and coming into the final stretch, a blade clash between both crews saw Birmingham marginally win. The Novice Men's and Women's squads learned valuable racing experience in both the 8+ and 4+, and although they did not win, they have their sights firmly set on BUCS Head in two weeks.

On behalf of the Varsity Committee we would like to thank Warwick Sport, Worcester Boat Club for hosting the event, and all the supporters who braved the bitter cold to cheer the club on from the side. Birmingham may have won the coveted trophy this year, but 2013 will see Warwick Rowing bring it back.
